MistyLook with 2 sidebars
Oct 30th, 2007 by Kasia
On MistyLook forum a request for ML with two sidebars repeated few times. So I decided to take my chance and create such version ;).
In general I didn’t change much apart from adding extra sidebar and new header and profile images. It means that it offers all features regular MistyLook has including co-operation with widget plugins and newest version of WordPress (2.3).
I will appreciate any feedback especially if you encounter any problem (although I do hope you don’t
).
Download MistyLook 3.5 with 2 sidebars
Thanks for creating a 3-column version! I actually modified ML to a 3-column on one of my blogs, but I’m going to trust your changes more than my own.
Excellent theme - and a 3 column, just gives us more cool options. Thanks a lot
Alright… This is the version I’ve been looking fwd to all this time.
Hey, I was wondering if you please could tell me were is this picture from….I would very much like to know the place it looks so peacefull…
Thank you for all your comments. I’m glad to hear you like it
.
@ Carla
I have taken this picture in Wałbrzyskie Mountain. It’s a small mountain range in the south-west part of Poland (Central Europe). Hard to believe but 20 years ago there were coal mines operating there and the whole area looked much worse covered with ash and smog.. Incredible trasformation, isn’t it?

I was looking for good theme to change my old one. And I found your theme as really good theme to change my old one. But I see only one big problem - tag cloud has not enough space and some of the tags are displayed not correct.
And what I like in you theme - it’s custom header img upload. Nice! But it would be better to have a list with all custom headers. Let’s say - today is my birthday and I would like to use custom header just for one day and tomorrow I would like to have old header…
Or maybe you can release new theme version with the same width of theme and only with one column? (I can make changes myself, but it’s only a suggestion)
Thank you for your really good theme!
and one more… It would be really intresting to see GRAVATARs integrated with you theme
just wanted to say thankyou. I’m using this customized theme as my blog theme. Thank’s!
Hi LG,
; till someone creates such theme you may use instructions from WP Codex
Thank you very much for all your nice words. About your ideas:
1. “new theme version with the same width of theme and only with one column” - that was dicussed & resolved on MistyLook Forum
2. “have a list with all custom headers” - yeah; that would be nice
3. “GRAVATARs integrated” - it would be definitely custome change since not everyone use it; I guess it’s easier just to install plugin for it
Best regards.
excelent! I will use it!
I am trying to use this theme because I love the idea of the ‘custom image header’. I uploaded the theme, but it doesn’t work. Since I have some readers, I have archived the theme until I can figure out if I need a plugin for this ‘custom image header’ to work properly.
I would like to have this clean design and be able to change the header image for the season, time of year, holidays, etc.
Thank you, I think this is a lovely theme!
hi! im just starting with WP & im so happy to have stumbled on this amazing theme. thanks so much for sharing! =)
being a newbie, i really have no idea what to do with the downloaded zip file. there’s so many files! lol! if someone can point a link on how to install a WP theme (esp this one!), it would be very much appreciated. thanks a lot!
I’m totally css impaired - is there a way to get rid of the numbers before each comment? I think that’s the only thing about this theme I don’t like, otherwise I really love it.
Thanks again for all your feedback.
@Cao
no, you don’t need a plugin for custom header image in this theme; in your admin panel simply navigate to Presentation > Custome Header Image; there you will find info how does it work exactly

Hi Kasia,
Just dropped by to thank you for the mistylook theme. It shows attention to detail and a professional touch to it! I am really pleased. Thanks!
tony
Just a note: I plan to have about 70 pages on one of my blogs and I can see trouble with the top tabs. Any ideas?
Here is the blog in question: http://mazungue.com/recolhas/angola69/
Thanks
good, i’ll trying to use ur theme…Thanks
Hi tony,
There is no way to list 70 pages as tabs on the top of the page in any way it looks nice. It’s just too many.
If you really want to have all pages listed somewhere you can move piece of code resposible for listing them (line with function wp_list_pages) from header.php to sidebar.php.
Good luck!
Hi Kasia,
I recently found your theme and really like it. I “upgraded” from the original Misty to the two side columns, but now my pages do not show up. An error comes up on the browser “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/footbam4/public_html/wp-content/themes/mistylook-2sidebars1/page.php on line 27″
Could you give me some help on fixing this problem?
Thanks. I had to switch back to the original for my visitors sake.
Thanks
How do I change what is showing in the About on the sidebar?
I don’t want it to just be the tagline.
Thanks!
@ Rori
What exactly do you want to change in the About? Picture or text? The latter can be changed by editing relevant section of sidebar.php.
It’s amazing… sure wish you’ll release a different version where the sidebars are from two sides and not together.

Hi again,
I am sorry I did not have this on a feed. I want to change the image and the text and all I see in the sidebar2 is
mistylook_ShowAbout()
Hi Rori,
. It means you may change text appearing in sidebar in function.php file.
Correct -> in sidebar.php there is only php function calling for what is defined in function.php
The easiest way to change image is to overwrite profile.png image which is in mistylook-2sidebars/img folder.
Kasia, may I ask you one other question?
I am going INSANE in the css with trying to figure out how to reduce the spaces between the lines in the sidebar.
It seems to double space everything. I have tried changing every line-height in the CSS and cannot fix it. Any clues?
Here is the site.

Thanks a lot for this well defined theme. I ve been looking for something good since the theme I selected earlier was not SEO friendly. Some don’t display Trackback Url, some are broken, and some are not ad happy . I guess I found what I was looking for.
@ Rori
.
In style.css find #content .sidebar li li { margin:5px 0; padding:0; } and change it for example to #content .sidebar li li { margin: 0; padding:0; }. That should do the trick
@ Adam
Thanks a lot for appreciation.
Hi Kasia,
I’m loving the new theme. I needed to switch to a them with two sidebars and was so excited that I got to stay with MistyLook.
I’ve just noticed that my front page is displaying my most recent post (#5) and then the second to last post (#3). It’s not displaying my next to last post (#4) (sorry, this is difficult to explain). I would expect my front page to show post #5 and then post #4. This just happened when I changed the theme, but I’m not sure if it’s a theme specific problem, or just how the them is interacting with a plugin. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how to fix =)
P.S. I just remember in order to get the front page to show two posts I had to change the setting on # of posts to show (under Options; Reading tab in WP) to 4. When I tried in on 2 posts, only 1 appeared. When I tried it on 3 posts, it threw the sidebars to the bottom of the page. It’s currently set on 4, and 2 posts are showing up on the front page, but like I mentioned above it is not the two most recent posts.
I just tried setting it to 5, and it’s showing post 5, post 3, and post 1 and the sidebars are non-existent.
This is really weird =)
Kasia,
Love the new theme. Can you please instruct me on how to place one of the sidebars at the left side of the content (the other one will stay at the right side). A good example of this layout (although he doesn’t use MistyLook) is http://labnol.blogspot.com.
Your feedback is more than appreciated. Thanks,
Gili
Hello,
. The theme itself shouldn’t cause such problems. Does it happened aslo with default theme? Or maybe do you use any plugin that can be in conflict with index.php file (that’s file responsible for main page look) ?
@ Marry Frances
This is really weird
@ Gili
That’s more complicated that you may think. In fact it requires re-design of entire content+sidebar area. Some day, when I have more time, I will work on it :).
Kasia, thanks… the sooner the better
I am willing to make a donation if that will help. Contact me via email if interested.
I’ve customized the look of this theme for blogspot with two sidebars on two sides of the content - one on the left and one on the right. Check it out at http://abhinavtheauthor.blogspot.com/ If someone would tell me how the Wordpress blogging software works, I would surely do that. Cheers and Merry Christmas.
One thing that i noticed with this theme is that if I change the widgets in the sidebar from default setting the theme is moving 5 or 10px to the left when you change from page to page and so on.
It is a bit disturbing. Would be great if you could make a fix for this.
Bye
Hmmm seems that i found the reason for the moving now, so don’t bother about my other comment.
I disabled all of my plugins and still had the same issue. I then tried regular MistyLook and both of the Wordpress defaults and the problem went away. As soon as I have a little time I’m going to reupload the main index template and see what that does.
Hello

@ Gili
I will send you info this weekend
@ Abhinav
I have to say it looks pretty good. Although HTML validator tells me there are 369 errors ;). I will try to work on it when I have time.
@ Navin
Could you tell me what was the reason of this strange behaviour, please? I wasn’t able to replicate it (I’ve tried few different browsers). Was it connected with some plugin?
@ Mary Frances
Please, let me know if uploading ‘fresh’ index.php fixed this issue.
Thanks
Kasia, reuploading a fresh index.php worked. I must have deleted something when I was adding adds and site tracker code to that page.
Kasia,
Haven’t heard from you to date, please contact me ASAP.
Yours,
Gili
Kasia, regarding post #31
That change did not make any difference. Any other ideas?
I’ve been looking for an wordpress theme with 2 sidebars. This looks like it. But can you have 2 sidebars on each side with the content in the middle?
Guys / Gals,
Please use http://wpthemetips.com/forums/ for any kind of customization help you need. It is far better than using the comments section of this post.
Thanks.
